My Toyota Prius Hybrid...Two Year Update
If you read my little article at http://lube2005.com/hybrid_cars/my_new_toyota_prius.html which I posted on this site two years ago, you will have learned how my wife and I got our new (then) Toyota Prius hybrid.
Well, we have had our little white Prius for two years now, and I thought you might just want to know how we feel after that time.
As I am writing this, April 2008, gas prices are soaring, They are relatively cheap where I live, but they are well over $3.30 per gallon of regular and I have heard of prices over $4.00 in some areas.
FUEL ECONOMY
At the age of two years, with almost 60,000 miles, my Toyota Prius is getting 50.1 miles per gallon. I think you will agree that's pretty good fuel economy. Of course, I also use many of the tips in my article 9 Tips for Increasing Fuel Economy, but I have to admit that most of the savings comes from the hybrid vehicle design.
PERFORMANCE
The Toyota Prius is NOT a race car. However, I have no problem merging onto the Interstate and cruising at 70 MPH. Of course, slower speeds mean better fuel economy, and I try to keep it down a little bit. A few months ago, my wife and I took a three week trip through New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, and California, driving long distances almost every day on Interstates, back roads, and mountain roads. The fuel economy was in the high 40's, about 48.6, the entire time. I had no problem with hills or highway, either.
To put it simply, a lady stopped me in a parking lot the other day and asked, "How's she drive?"
My answer? "Sweet!"
